Timothy McGowan, Acclaimed Research Analyst, Passes Away at 67

Timothy Andrew McGowan, a respected research analyst known for his impactful career in the entertainment industry, passed away in early 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 67 years old. McGowan’s contributions to Columbia Pictures and CBS/KCAL-9 left a lasting mark on the field, and he will be remembered for his dedication both professionally and personally.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1957 in Brooklyn, NY, Timothy was the third of six children born to James and Joan McGowan, who hailed from Irish immigrant backgrounds. In 1966, the McGowan family relocated to Maywood, NJ, where Tim spent his formative years and attended Our Lady Queen of Peace. This early education laid the groundwork for his academic and professional pursuits.

In 1971, the family moved again, this time to California, settling in the San Fernando Valley the following year. Tim graduated from Chaminade High School, a community that he maintained connections with long after his graduation.

Career and Personal Life

McGowan began his career as a research analyst at Columbia Pictures in 1985. His commitment and expertise propelled him to the position of Vice President of Research at CBS/KCAL-9, where he significantly influenced the media landscape over several decades. His work was characterized by a deep understanding of audience dynamics and market trends.

In 1986, during a performance at the Showboat Theatre, McGowan met Susan McDermott, and they married in 1987. Together, they welcomed two sons: Matthew in 1989 and Morgan in 1992. Following their separation, Tim reconnected with Pamela Meyer, a classmate from Chaminade, and the two enjoyed a devoted partnership for over 15 years, exploring the world together.

After a 25-year hiatus from theatre, McGowan returned to the stage in 2010, participating in numerous productions in the Santa Clarita area. He also achieved dual Irish citizenship and completed two Associate of Arts degrees during this period, highlighting his commitment to lifelong learning.

In 2022, McGowan faced a challenging diagnosis of duodenal cancer, which he successfully battled. Unfortunately, in late 2024, he received another devastating diagnosis—leukemia.

Tim McGowan is survived by his life partner, Pamela Meyer; his sons, Matthew and Morgan; and his siblings, Terry, Jim, Colleen, and Cathy. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, remembered as a dedicated father, partner, and professional.

The family invites those who wish to honor Tim’s memory to consider sending flowers, planting a tree, or sharing a meal with friends in his name.
