Longtime NBA guard Isaiah Thomas has expressed his desire to play for at least one more season, indicating that he remains in top physical condition. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Thomas shared that he is staying in game shape and is in contact with several teams interested in signing him.
The 36-year-old Thomas last signed a full-season contract in 2019 with the Washington Wizards. Despite facing significant injuries throughout his career, he has maintained an impressive average of 17.5 points per game, particularly during his standout years with the Boston Celtics.
In a recent encounter at LAX, Thomas stated, “I’m staying ready.” He emphasized his commitment to remaining fit and is currently evaluating his options as he navigates the off-season. Thomas, who most recently played with the Phoenix Suns in 2024, has experienced a series of short-term contracts and time in the G League in the years leading up to this moment, but he remains optimistic about his future in the sport.
Thomas’ Determination to Contribute
Thomas is confident in his ability to perform at a high level, declaring that his body feels “amazing.” He noted, “I’m healthy, I’m only 36, I still got a few more years to play … but ideally, I would love to play one more.” His enthusiasm for the game is palpable as he indicates that he is ready to contribute to a team right now.
If a return to the NBA does not materialize, Thomas acknowledges that he has other career options outside of basketball. Nevertheless, his focus remains on finding a suitable team where he can bring his skills to the court.
While specific teams interested in Thomas have not been disclosed, his ongoing communication with various franchises suggests that he may have opportunities to secure a spot on a roster before the start of the upcoming season. The basketball community will be keeping a close eye on his next moves as he seeks to extend his career in the league he loves.
