Danica McKellar Shares Secrets to Staying Fit at 50

Danica McKellar, the star of Great American Family, recently shared her approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle as she turns 50. In an interview with Fox News Digital, McKellar revealed her strategy for avoiding weight gain during the holiday season and throughout the year.

One of her key principles is to savor desserts only after consuming a substantial portion of healthy foods. “My secret — one of my secrets — is that I don’t eat dessert or anything that’s bad for me until I’m totally full with all the healthy stuff,” she explained. She advised that if she feels satisfied after eating nutritious meals, she allows herself just a couple of bites of dessert.

McKellar, known for her role in “The Wonder Years,” also mentioned her perspective on New Year’s resolutions. “I’m not sure why. I think because every day I try to just resolve to be the best person I can be,” she said during her interview at the Conrad Nashville. She emphasized that her faith guides her daily decisions, with themes of spirituality reflected in her upcoming Christmas film, “Have We Met This Christmas?”, which premieres on December 13, 2023.

This marks McKellar’s twelfth holiday movie, and she not only stars in it but also made her feature writing debut. The film will also be available for streaming on Great American Pure Flix.

McKellar, who recently published her twelfth math book titled “I Love You 100: A Counting Book Full of Love,” shared more about her lifestyle. She described her diet as “very boring,” attributing her youthful appearance and vitality to drinking plenty of water. “I really don’t drink alcohol, I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink soda, certainly nothing with artificial flavors or sweeteners,” she stated, adding that she believes these substances can negatively affect the body.

In addition to avoiding processed foods, McKellar maintains a gluten-free and dairy-free diet. She emphasized the importance of cooking her own meals, often preparing dinner every night or every other night to ensure she knows exactly what she is consuming. “I do it myself because I know what is in there,” she noted.

While working on film sets, McKellar keeps a rice cooker and an instant pot in her hotel room, allowing her to prepare healthy meals. “I make my own chicken. I bring a rice cooker, I make my own brown rice, I steam vegetables,” she explained. This commitment to healthy eating helps her resist unhealthy temptations, which she acknowledges are prevalent.

To further motivate herself, McKellar adopts a mindset that emphasizes the rewards of her efforts. “I think to myself, right now is when I’m earning all the things I love about feeling good and feeling fit and healthy. Right now, I’m earning it,” she shared.

With her dedication to health and wellness, Danica McKellar continues to inspire others as she embraces her 50s. Her approach serves as a reminder of the importance of balance, self-discipline, and the influence of personal values in achieving a healthy lifestyle.
