UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has just announced a generous commitment to pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This crucial support comes through the foundation’s Fallen First Responder Home Program, part of their 2025 Season of Hope initiative.
Finseth tragically lost his life on February 18, 2024, during a heroic act while responding to a domestic violence call in Burnsville, Minnesota. Alongside Burnsville police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, Finseth was ambushed by a gunman while providing critical support to children at risk in a standoff situation at a local home.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the events of September 11, 2001, highlighted Finseth’s bravery, noting that he “acted without hesitation in his last moments.” Fire Chief BJ Jungmann praised Finseth’s dedication, stating, “He showed his commitment and unwavering dedication when he responded … in the middle of the night because seven children were at risk.”
The tragic incident unfolded as Finseth attempted to assist an officer with medical aid. The situation escalated rapidly, with the assailant opening fire on officers during negotiations. Tragically, Finseth was struck and later succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, the gunman fatally shot himself, and the children along with his girlfriend were unharmed.
This act of support from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation not only provides financial relief but also honors the legacy of a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for his community. The mortgage payoff will significantly ease the burden on the Finseth family during this incredibly difficult time.
As the community mourns Finseth’s loss, this act of kindness from the nonprofit serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by first responders every day. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues to play a vital role in supporting the families of fallen heroes, ensuring they do not face financial hardship alone.
Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to follow the impact of this announcement on the Finseth family and the broader Burnsville community.
