Senator Gallego Secures $99 Million for Arizona Military Bases in NDAA

Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona has announced the successful passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which allocates substantial funding and enhancements for military installations throughout the state. This legislation, which Gallego championed, is designed to improve the quality of life for military families and modernize critical infrastructure.

Among the notable provisions, the NDAA allocates $32.8 million for infrastructure upgrades at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and $990,000 for the replacement or repair of Pole Line Road in Yuma. Furthermore, the act includes $99 million designated for necessary facility construction at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, $2 million for a new flight control tower at Fort Huachuca, $45 million for a child development center at Luke Air Force Base, and $4 million to replace an aging bridge at Camp Navajo.

Enhancing Military Support and Global Security

In addition to local improvements, the NDAA has broader national implications. It authorizes the Baltic Security Initiative through 2028, demonstrating the United States’ commitment to supporting its allies in the Baltics. The act also extends and increases funding for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. It mandates that the Department of Defense notify Congress within 48 hours regarding any delays in assistance or intelligence to Ukraine, ensuring transparency and accountability.

The legislation aims to repeal the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force and prohibits reducing troop levels in the European Command area to fewer than 76,000 personnel. This measure reinforces the United States’ leadership role within NATO. Additionally, the NDAA authorizes $70 million for educational services aimed primarily at the dependents of military personnel and Department of Defense civilians, with a focus on supporting children with disabilities.

A Commitment to Local and Global Responsibilities

The passage of the NDAA signifies a key advancement in both military support and infrastructure development, not only for Arizona but also for reinforcing the United States’ international commitments. Senator Gallego’s advocacy for these enhancements reflects a keen awareness of the necessity to balance local needs with global security responsibilities.

As the military landscape continues to evolve, the funding secured through this act is expected to have lasting positive impacts on the welfare of military families and the operational capabilities of U.S. forces stationed in Arizona and beyond.
