Lindsey Vonn Secures 142nd Podium with Bronze at Val d’Isere

UPDATE: Lindsey Vonn has just clinched her 142nd career podium with a thrilling bronze medal finish in the super-G at the Val d’Isere World Cup in France on December 21, 2025. This marks a significant achievement for the 41-year-old ski legend, who finished just 0.36 seconds behind Italy’s Sofia Goggia, who took the gold with a time of 1:20.24.

Vonn’s remarkable performance came amidst intense competition, with Goggia bouncing back from a disappointing previous race. Goggia, who now ties Hilde Gerg for eighth place on the all-time super-G wins list, expressed her emotional journey after the race, stating,

“Yesterday was really an emotional day for me… I felt really pain inside of my soul, and I think the pain I felt yesterday was the gasoline I put on my race today.”

New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, the surprise winner of the first super-G earlier this season, secured the second spot, demonstrating her prowess despite challenging weather conditions. Robinson remarked, “I was a little annoyed… I thought I could have done it better,” highlighting the fierce competitiveness of the event.

Vonn, showing her signature resilience, started strong but faced challenges after brushing a gate on the Le Telephone jump, which cost her valuable time. Despite this, she rebounded with impressive speed through the meadows, clocking in at 1:20.60. “I didn’t quite have enough direction on the first jump… After that, I skied well,” Vonn reflected on her performance.

The podium finish adds to Vonn’s recent string of successes, including a silver medal at the World Cup Finals last March. With results over the last six races reading 2-1-2-4-3-3, Vonn is clearly maintaining her competitive edge.

As the women’s World Cup circuit moves to Semmering for two technical races on December 27-28, Vonn will look to build on her podium momentum. Meanwhile, fellow American Keely Cashman finished just off the podium in 11th place, while Tricia Mangan and others rounded out the American contingent.

This latest performance not only highlights Vonn’s enduring talent but also underscores the emotional rollercoaster that elite athletes endure. As fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming races, Vonn’s spirit and determination remain a source of inspiration.
