Konami Announces Annual Silent Hill Releases Starting 2026

Konami has confirmed plans to release a new Silent Hill game each year starting in 2026, according to series producer Motoi Okamoto. This announcement marks a significant revival for the long-dormant horror franchise. Speaking to Famitsu, Okamoto expressed confidence in the series’ direction, stating that fans can expect at least one new title annually following the release of Silent Hill 2 in October 2024.

Ambitious Plans for the Franchise

Okamoto detailed the company’s commitment to reinvigorating the Silent Hill series, saying, “Following the release of Silent Hill 2 in October 2024, we were able to deliver Silent Hill f in September 2025, and the Silent Hill series is now back on track.” The producer indicated that the aim is to maintain a steady stream of releases, including both announced and yet-to-be-revealed titles. “We’re not sure how far we can achieve this, but we’ll do our best as the producer of the Silent Hill series,” he added.

This ambitious strategy could set the stage for at least two years of planned releases, enhancing the franchise’s visibility. The announcement follows the unveiling of Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by Annapurna Interactive and the BAFTA-winning studio No Code, during the 2022 Silent Hill broadcast. Although details have been scarce since then, a now-deleted listing from a Liverpool-based department store suggested that Townfall is slated for release in March 2026.

Future Releases and Challenges Ahead

Additionally, Bloober Team is working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, which is expected to echo the style of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Bloober has not disclosed much about its project, but it is believed to have been in development for several months prior to its announcement. This remake could potentially serve as the franchise’s release for 2027.

The challenge of annual game releases is significant. While franchises like Call of Duty have successfully employed this model, the quality of releases can vary. Unlike Call of Duty, which benefits from a substantial and loyal player base, Silent Hill must navigate the complexities of maintaining its audience’s interest over time. The risk is compounded by Konami’s strategy of licensing the franchise to various studios, contrasting with Activision’s model of in-house development by multiple teams.

Despite these challenges, the recent success of titles like Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f, both of which received critical acclaim, suggests a positive trajectory for the series. In contrast, 2023 saw the release of Silent Hill: Ascension, an interactive television show. Although it garnered an Emmy award, the project faced mixed reactions and is now available for free viewing on Tubi.

As the Silent Hill franchise prepares for its annual release schedule, the excitement among fans is palpable. With a blend of remakes and new content on the horizon, Konami is poised to reinvigorate one of horror gaming’s most iconic series.
