UPDATE: A San Ramon police officer was injured late Sunday night after a dramatic chase involving suspects connected to a series of vehicle thefts. Two suspects have been arrested, while authorities continue to search for two additional individuals involved in this urgent incident.
The chase began when police received information about suspects returning to the location of a previously abandoned stolen vehicle in the area of Kyler Court and Kyler Lane. As officers responded, chaos erupted. Witnesses reported a stolen vehicle crashing into multiple police patrol cars, leading to a shocking scene.
“I heard the sirens, and then a big crash,” said local resident Adam Bieneman. “I looked outside and saw a fire hydrant blasting water into the air.” The collision not only injured the officer but also resulted in thousands of gallons of water flooding the street, startling nearby residents.
According to Lt. Leysy Pelayo of the San Ramon Police Department, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that ultimately struck four patrol cars. “The car hit the driver’s door on the way out, pinning the officer’s leg momentarily between the door and the frame,” Pelayo explained.
The two suspects arrested face several charges, including hit and run related to the injured officer, possession of stolen property, and vehicle burglary. Police are actively pursuing the remaining two suspects as part of their investigation into a string of auto burglaries and vehicle thefts in the region.
Officials emphasize the importance of this pursuit in preventing further criminal activity, stating, “We’re being proactive to make sure that we identify and apprehend those responsible.”
This incident highlights the risks that law enforcement officers face daily and the ongoing challenges of tackling auto theft in communities. As the investigation continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant.
