BREAKING: The highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, has just unveiled a crucial song that deepens the story of the witches of Oz. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, the film released on November 21, 2025, continues the saga from its blockbuster predecessor, immersing audiences in a narrative filled with emotion and urgency.
Composer Stephen Schwartz revealed critical insights about Elphaba’s new song, “No Place Like Home,” which serves as a pivotal moment in the film. This song reflects Elphaba’s struggle for the Animals of Oz, a theme that resonates profoundly with viewers today. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Schwartz shared how the song’s concept evolved, highlighting the initial idea from writer Winnie Holzman that involved animals attempting to escape.
Schwartz explained, “In looking for a place to explore that, Winnie came up with the idea that animals would be trying to escape, and that Elphaba would come upon them and try to persuade them not to.” This development not only enriches Elphaba’s character but also emphasizes her dedication to a cause that ultimately risks her own safety.
The song underwent significant changes during production, with Schwartz admitting that earlier drafts included a more literal interpretation. “There was a whole thing afterward when she arrived back at her childhood home,” he noted, revealing that the decision to cut this sequence was made to focus on Elphaba’s emotional turmoil about leaving Oz. Schwartz emphasized, “We felt it was really important…that we understand how much she loved Oz, despite the fact that it doesn’t show a lot of love to her.”
Erivo praised the song as a vital exploration of Elphaba’s motivations. “She has to question why she wants to continue to save Oz, or save the animals in it, even though this place doesn’t necessarily want her,” Erivo explained. The title itself is a nod to the classic The Wizard of Oz, with Erivo stating, “if the words ‘no place like home’ are in her mouth, they have to mean something; it has to be really special.”
The song has garnered significant attention, recently receiving a pending nomination for Best Original Song at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards and is anticipated to be a contender for the Academy Awards as well.
Currently, Wicked: For Good is available for digital rental or purchase, with plans to stream on Peacock in the future, although a release date has not yet been confirmed.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting film and its impact on audiences worldwide. As the world watches, the stakes in Oz are higher than ever, and the heart of Elphaba’s journey resonates now more than ever.
