First Lady Abbott Launches Urgent Prayer Initiative Against Human Trafficking

UPDATE: First Lady Cecilia Abbott has urgently called on all Texans to unite against human trafficking as the sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking kicks off from January 5 through January 11, 2025. This initiative is part of the Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) and aligns with the state’s commitment during Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

In her official announcement, First Lady Abbott emphasized the need for community action, stating, “Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action.” This week-long observance seeks to mobilize the faith-based community to engage in prayer, deepen their understanding of human trafficking, and discern their roles in preventing exploitation and supporting survivors.

Authorities urge immediate participation, with daily prayer intentions designed to focus on critical aspects of the fight against human trafficking. Each day of the week will feature specific themes aimed at exposing exploiters, raising community awareness, and promoting healing for survivors. The collective hope is that these efforts will disrupt the cycle of trafficking and foster a supportive environment for victims seeking justice.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is also actively promoting the initiative. Commissioner Audrey O’Neill and DFPS Director of Human Trafficking Blanca Lance have announced the release of the 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month guide, which includes educational resources and community tools to empower Texans in this urgent battle.

As the week progresses, First Lady Abbott and state officials stress the importance of solidarity and collective action. The initiative aims to not only provide comfort but to equip communities with the tools necessary to combat human trafficking effectively.

This urgent call to action comes at a time when human trafficking remains a critical issue affecting vulnerable populations across Texas. The need for awareness and proactive measures has never been more pressing, and the state stands as a beacon of hope in the fight against this pervasive crime.

Texans are encouraged to dedicate moments throughout the week to join GRACE’s efforts, with the belief that prayer combined with action can create significant change. The message is clear: together, Texans can protect the vulnerable and stand firmly against exploitation.

As the Week of Prayer unfolds, community engagement is vital. Authorities believe that through united prayer and awareness, Texas can make strides in combating human trafficking and supporting those affected. The time to act is NOW.
