Beloved Community Leader Dan Ericson Passes Away at 77

Dan Ericson, a cherished resident of Hermosa Beach and a respected figure in the South Bay community, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by family and friends, he left behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and dedication to his community.

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where he excelled in sports, particularly baseball and basketball, earning recognition as Homecoming King. After furthering his education at El Camino College, Dan was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University, where he continued to thrive athletically.

Dan served his country with honor as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he transitioned into the aerospace industry before discovering his passion for real estate. Over several decades, Dan built a successful real estate business in the South Bay, known for his integrity and commitment to mentoring young professionals. He instilled in them the importance of conducting business with honesty and compassion.

In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington in a ceremony at Neighborhood Church. Together, they created a life filled with love, community involvement, and a strong family bond. Dan was a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and a loving father-in-law to Katrin. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Known for his kind demeanor and playful sense of humor, Dan had a unique talent for wordplay and clever jokes, often delivered with his warm smile. His love for the ocean was evident in his passions for surfing, fishing, and sailing, activities that shaped his easygoing spirit throughout his life.

A long-time parishioner of American Martyrs Church, Dan remained deeply connected to his community for over 40 years. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Prior to the Mass, the family invites the community to a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach to honor Dan’s life and legacy. All are welcome to attend this tribute.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting mental health and wellness through ocean therapy. Dan’s impact on those around him will be remembered fondly as a testament to his generous spirit and unwavering dedication to family and community.
