‘The White Lotus’ Chooses 19th Century Chateau in France for Season 4

The popular HBO series, The White Lotus, has selected a stunning 19th-century chateau as its primary filming location for the upcoming fourth season. The show, created by Mike White, will utilize the Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez, France, which will serve as the backdrop for a fictional luxury hotel plagued by mysterious murders.

The chateau, operating seasonally from late April to mid-October, is situated slightly inland from the glamorous French Riviera. Guests can expect breathtaking sea views and accommodations starting at approximately €1,200 (about $1,300) per night for the smallest room during opening weekend. Despite the exciting news, HBO has opted not to comment further on the production details.

In November, HBO confirmed that filming for The White Lotus season four would take place in France, marking the show’s second venture into European settings. The previous season was filmed in Italy, following installments set in Hawaii and Thailand. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the series has announced its first two cast members for the new season: Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka.

A Historical Gem Transformed into a Luxury Retreat

According to the hotel’s website, the Château de la Messardière was originally constructed in the 19th century by a wealthy cognac merchant named Gabriel Dupuy d’Angeac. He gifted the property to his daughter, Louise, and her husband as a wedding present. Following her husband’s death, Louise transformed the chateau into a hotel, which quickly became a favored retreat for affluent Parisians during the 1920s.

After falling into disrepair in subsequent decades, the chateau underwent a major restoration in 1989. It is now part of the Airelles group of luxury hotels, known for its exquisite accommodations and stunning surroundings. Season four of The White Lotus will not only feature the chateau but also incorporate various other locations across France, promising a rich visual experience for viewers.

Production is set to commence in the spring, and Mike White, who will soon be seen competing on the 50th season of CBS’ Survivor, is currently in the writing phase for this much-anticipated season. Alongside him, David Bernad and Mark Kamine will serve as executive producers for the series.

The announcement of the chateau as the primary location has generated excitement among fans and industry insiders alike, with many eager to see how the show’s signature blend of dark humor and drama will unfold against the picturesque backdrop of the French countryside. As details continue to emerge, the anticipation for season four of The White Lotus grows, promising yet another compelling narrative filled with intrigue.
