CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bearcats capitalized on the Colorado Buffaloes’ defensive weaknesses, claiming a decisive 77-68 victory on December 6, 2023, at Fifth Third Arena. The Buffaloes’ interior defense has been a persistent issue this season, and Cincinnati’s Baba Miller and Moustapha Thiam exploited these vulnerabilities, combining for a staggering 40 points.
Miller, a transfer from Florida Atlantic, showcased his skills with a dominant performance, recording his eighth double-double of the season with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists on an impressive 10-for-17 shooting night. Thiam, towering at 7-foot-2, added 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting, demonstrating the Bearcats’ offensive efficiency as they shot 64% (16-for-25) from the field.
“We didn’t do a good job defensively,” said CU head coach Tad Boyle in a post-game interview. “Our post guys got abused down low, and our perimeter guys didn’t help them.” The Buffaloes struggled to contain Miller and Thiam, which ultimately led to their defeat.
The loss comes as the Buffaloes continue to face challenges with injuries. Reserve player Jalin Holland missed his second consecutive game, but Boyle remains hopeful he will return for Saturday’s matchup against West Virginia. Meanwhile, freshman Ian Inman made his long-awaited return to the court after being sidelined since December 13, contributing 5.5 minutes and scoring his first points since the season opener.
In a notable off-court highlight, CU men’s basketball media relations director Troy Andre received the prestigious 2026 Achievement Award from the College Sports Communicators, recognizing his significant contributions to athletics communications.
As the Buffaloes regroup, they must address their defensive lapses if they hope to turn their season around. With their next game approaching, fans will be watching closely to see if the team can bounce back from this disappointing performance.
