Kwik Star has officially opened its doors in Knoxville, marking a significant expansion for the convenience store chain. On January 8, 2024, the new location celebrated its launch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by President and CEO Scott Zietlow. The event underscored the company’s commitment to providing a diverse range of products and services to the local community.
The Knoxville Kwik Star features an extensive selection that includes hot food, grocery items, produce, and fresh bakery products. In addition to these offerings, the store provides 20 fueling spots and a car wash, catering to various customer needs. The grand opening drew attention not only for its amenities but also for the company’s unique approach to product supply.
CEO’s Insights on Vertical Integration
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Zietlow shared insights on the operational strategy that sets Kwik Star apart from its competitors. He emphasized the importance of vertical integration in their business model, stating, “We carry national brands for sure but we have many of our own brands, and with all the production that we do, that makes a huge difference for us.”
Zietlow explained that this model allows Kwik Star to maintain control over its delivery system, enhancing the value chain. “Most can’t do that or they have a third-party delivery or they can’t deliver on a daily basis or nearly daily, and that makes a big difference,” he added. This commitment to self-supply enables Kwik Star to offer consistent quality and availability to its customers.
In addition to providing a variety of products, Kwik Star also demonstrated its dedication to community engagement. At the ceremony, the company presented $1,000 donations to both the Knoxville Fire Department and the Knoxville Police Department.
