Urgent Update: Driver Strikes and Kills Pedestrian in San Mateo

UPDATE: A tragic accident in San Mateo has left a pedestrian dead after being struck by a vehicle on Friday morning. The collision occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a woman suffering from critical injuries. She was promptly transported to a local hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter. Authorities have not yet released her identity.

The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real, striking the pedestrian in the north crosswalk at 17th Avenue.

Following the accident, lanes of South El Camino Real and the westbound Highway 92 off-ramp were closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the investigation.
