Blackduck Winter Fun Fest Set to Boost Snowmobile Race Participation

Organizers of the third annual Blackduck Stumpjumpers’ snowmobile drag races are aiming to increase participant numbers significantly ahead of the upcoming Blackduck Winter Fun Fest. Scheduled for January 24, 2016, the event hopes to attract between 75 and 80 riders, a notable increase from last year’s turnout of approximately 40 participants.

Historic Highlights from January 24

Reflecting on the past, this date has seen several significant local sports achievements. In 2001, the Bemidji High School girls basketball team made history by inaugurating the new high school gymnasium. They secured a thrilling victory against Brainerd with a score of 47-46, thanks to a last-second layup by Lynnea Salscheider that clinched the game just two seconds before the final buzzer.

Fifty years earlier, in 1976, the Bemidji Lumberjacks wrestling team prepared to defend their title at the Northwest Conference in Fergus Falls. The team entered the competition as favorites, having established a strong record in both dual meets and tournaments, while many of their league opponents had faced challenges throughout the season.

Community Development Initiatives

Further back, in 1926, Kelliher farmers and businessmen gathered at a schoolhouse to launch a movement aimed at promoting community development and showcasing the area’s agricultural potential. As the community transitioned from a timber-based economy to one focused on agriculture, this initiative marked a pivotal moment in their economic evolution.

These events reflect a rich history of community engagement and sporting triumphs, highlighting the ongoing spirit of competition and development in the region. As Blackduck prepares for a festive winter celebration, the enthusiasm surrounding the snowmobile races promises to unite participants and spectators alike, continuing a tradition that strengthens local ties.
