FAIR OAKS RANCH — The city is enhancing its water infrastructure with the installation of a 500,000-gallon tank at Water Plant 5. This project, estimated at $8.7 million, aims to improve water delivery during periods of high demand and power outages, as stated in a recent city press release.
The installation began in early December 2023, with the construction of the tank’s foundation already underway. As of now, approximately $1 million has been invested in the project, which is designed to provide elevated storage in Zone A of the city. This new capacity is expected to enhance both flexibility and reliability for domestic use and emergency situations.
According to the city’s announcement, the new water main serving the storage tank will significantly improve fire flow capacity in Zone B. The initiative includes the installation of 4,000 linear feet of a 12-inch waterline along West Ammann Road, which is vital for meeting peak water demands and enhancing fire safety.
City Manager Scott Huizenga emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “This will effectively double the capacity at Water Plant 5.” The tank itself is scheduled for placement in April 2024, with the entire project projected to be completed by May 1, 2028.
Officials noted that the existing water plant has faced challenges in meeting demand, particularly as current storage tanks are not frequently emptied. The construction work is currently reported to be 48% complete, according to updates on the city’s website.
The city has acknowledged that the construction process may result in increased noise and visual disturbances, urging residents to exercise patience during this critical upgrade. This initiative reflects Fair Oaks Ranch’s commitment to enhancing its water services and ensuring a reliable supply for its residents.
