Born on March 31, 1940, in Albany, California, to Henning and Ethel (Anderson) Erickson, Douglas spent most of his life in Esparto. He graduated from Esparto High School in 1958, where he met his high school sweetheart, Lucille Richardson. The couple married in 1960, embarking on a journey that would see them deeply involved in their local community.
Douglas dedicated much of his professional life to working on the family ranch and later for Cal Trans, where he served for 31 years. His time at Cal Trans allowed him to forge lifelong friendships, all while keeping his passion for tinkering alive. He was known for modifying everything from his Ford 9N to various vehicles he owned.
Community Contributions and Family Life
Together, Douglas and Lucille played significant roles in the Esparto community. They were instrumental in building the first Little League field at the Esparto Elementary School site. Their commitment to local athletics continued as they supported the Esparto Athletic Boosters, helping raise funds for Esparto High School sports programs. The couple was often seen cheering for their sons at sporting events, embodying the spirit of community involvement.
In his later years, Douglas enjoyed simple pleasures, such as walking his dog, Tig, and tending to his yard and almond orchard. He was known for his warmth and kindness, traits that endeared him to many in the community.
Douglas is survived by his sister, Linnea Herger, and his sons, Erik (Mary) and Philip (Karah). He leaves behind a loving family, including grandchildren Morgan (Sam) Foster, Macy, Daren, and Kinsey, as well as great-grandchildren Buck and Colt Foster.
