On February 13, 2024, Studio 42 & Co. officially opened its doors in Manila, Arkansas, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Mississippi County Chamber of Commerce. Founder Kennedy Baker expressed her excitement as her vision for a permanent arts center comes to fruition after six months of renovations. The center, located at the corner of Baltimore and Olympia Streets, aims to provide a creative space for individuals of all ages.
Community Support and Future Offerings
This newly renovated 35×60-foot facility will serve as a hub for various artistic expressions, including theater, music, art, and dance. Baker highlighted the invaluable assistance received from Dale Murphy, who played a significant role in the renovation process. The first art class took place on the same day, featuring instructor Zoe McMinn and three eager students engaged in painting.
Baker encourages the community to stay informed about upcoming events and activities by following the organization’s Facebook page. Notable attendees at the opening included Kayla Russell and Samantha Drewett from the Chamber of Commerce, as well as Tracey Reinhart, the Mayor of Manila, who expressed his support for this new venture in the downtown area.
Looking ahead, Studio 42 & Co. is set to present the musical “Into the Woods” from April 2 to April 5 at the Forum in Jonesboro. Additionally, the organization plans to stage “Rumors” later in April. Dance classes for children aged three to 18 will begin in March, while art classes are scheduled for Fridays in February from 16:30 to 17:30.
A Vision for Inclusive Arts
Baker’s vision extends beyond traditional arts. She aims to cater to diverse interests by providing opportunities in music, dance, and live performances. “If there is an interest, we will do our best to provide it,” Baker said, emphasizing her commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all artists and art enthusiasts.
With the launch of this center, Baker believes that Studio 42 & Co. will foster creativity and community engagement in Manila. “With our new home, we will have a place to meet and to grow. I am looking forward to the possibilities,” she added, signaling a bright future for the arts in the region.
