Byron T. Gorres, Esteemed Scientist and Family Man, Passes Away

Byron T. Gorres, a respected scientist and leader, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 89 in Stillwater, Minnesota. His career spanned 34 years at 3M, where he made significant contributions as both a scientist and a leader.

He is survived by his wife, Georgene Gorres, along with their four children: Sheryl Zaworski (Mike), Geoff Gorres, Gwen Gierke (Charlie), and Brett Gorres (Angie). The family also includes nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara, and his brother Earl.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 27, 2026, at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, located at 14107 Hudson Rd S., Afton, MN. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation on February 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Simonett Funeral Home, situated at 6429 Osgood Ave N., in Stillwater. Attendees can also visit at the church one hour before the funeral service begins.

Following the service, burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Afton. The family requests that memorials be made to the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
