Community Mourns the Passing of Deborah Ann Scott, 78

Deborah Ann Scott, known affectionately as Debby, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2026, at the age of 78. She was a beloved member of the Clearfield community and is remembered for her passion for animals, dedication to education, and commitment to her faith.

Born on October 7, 1947, in Rushville, Indiana, Debby was the daughter of Augustus and Elva Davis. She completed her education at Rushville High School and later pursued higher studies, earning a master’s degree in psychology from Grandview University in Des Moines. Her academic journey laid the foundation for a fulfilling career dedicated to nurturing and educating young minds.

Debby dedicated several years to teaching special education at Hiatt Middle School in Des Moines after her time at the Red Oak greenhouse. Her love for teaching was only rivaled by her enthusiasm for gardening and her active involvement in her church community. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 30 years, she attended services in Creston, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to community activities.

In her later years, Debby returned to Southwest Iowa to be closer to her family. She continued to share her knowledge as a substitute teacher at Villisca and Corning schools until health issues necessitated her early retirement.

Debby is survived by a loving family that includes her husband, Larry Scott; her sister, Angie Riggle; sons Michael (Mark Reynolds) Montgomery and John Robert “Bob” (Sarah) Stuart; daughter Genie (Bobby) Taylor; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family also remembers her son, Brian “Shawn” Corpe, who passed away before her, as well as her parents.

Her commitment to animal welfare was evident through her support of Midland’s Humane Society in Council Bluffs, where she rescued her cherished cat, Miss Cuddles. In honor of her legacy, memorial donations may be directed to the organization or towards a commemorative bench in her memory.
