Carol A. Stent, a cherished wife, sister, and community advocate, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her beloved husband, David Y. Nakahara Esq., at the time of her death, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
A Life Filled with Adventure and Service
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of seven siblings. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, where she formed lifelong friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Her adventurous spirit led her and four classmates to San Francisco, California, where they pursued their careers and found partners. Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England, while he was interning at Los Angeles County U.S.C. Hospital. The couple married at the picturesque Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A. and achieved board certification in neurology.
Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol met David Nakahara, and they were married on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple moved to Las Vegas in 1998, where they shared their lives and raised a family of seventeen pets, whom Carol affectionately referred to as her “fur babies.”
A Legacy of Love and Resilience
Carol was known for her passion for life and her unwavering support for those around her. She played a crucial role in assisting David as he cared for his aging parents, offering advice and support during their final years. This dedication occurred while she herself was recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Her ability to illuminate the lives of others with her wit, grit, and love left a lasting impact on friends and family alike. Carol is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.
As a tribute to her life, the family reflects on her guiding principle: “Soli Deo Gloria,” which translates to “Only To God the Glory.” Carol A. Stent is remembered not only for her beauty and adventurous spirit but also for her profound ability to connect with and uplift those around her, ensuring her legacy will endure.
