UPDATE: Edgewater offensive lineman Ben Jones has just been selected for the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl, set to take place on December 21, 2023, in Frisco, Texas. This recognition highlights not only his individual talent but also the strength of the Eagles, who boast an impressive 9-0 record this season.
Jones, formerly known as Ben Bankowitz, is ranked No. 43 in the Sentinel’s 2026 Central Florida Super60. His journey in football has been marked by hard work and dedication, starting as a key player on Edgewater’s offensive line since his freshman year. “It feels really good… just give the glory to God,” Jones stated following the announcement. This recognition is a testament to his relentless commitment and skill at the line of scrimmage.
The Eagles are currently dominating their competition, clinching the title of champions in Class 7A, District 5. Jones is eager for the team’s next challenge as they prepare for their rivalry game against Boone on October 30. “We still got six more games,” he emphasized, reflecting the team’s focus and determination.
Jones has been honing his skills over the years, learning the importance of technique in his position. “Technique is one of the most pivotal components of being an offensive lineman,” he remarked. His agility and blocking awareness make him stand out as one of the top offensive linemen in Florida, despite his large frame of 6 feet 3 inches and 295 pounds.
In June, Jones committed to Appalachian State, lured by the coaching staff’s culture and the connection with offensive line coach Allen Mogridge, who has a history in Central Florida. “I feel like App State is overachieving with the coaches they have,” he said, reflecting his confidence in the program’s future.
Jones attributes much of his success to former Edgewater coach Chris Jamison and current coaches Shermane TeArt and Kenny Thomas. His high school career has been enriched by a supportive coaching staff and a tight-knit team, especially during a challenging transition period when the former head coach left for a position in Georgia.
“This year is going really well… we’re running the ball great this year,” Jones noted, highlighting the team’s collective effort and commitment to unity. The players have remained focused, with minimal transfers amid a turbulent time in high school sports, showcasing their dedication to the program.
As the Eagles gear up for the final stretch of the season, all eyes will be on Jones and his teammates. The upcoming games will determine not only their season’s success but also the legacy they leave behind as a united team.
Stay tuned for more updates on Ben Jones and the Edgewater Eagles as they continue their impressive campaign!
