Community Remembers Virgil Wayne Whitwell, 84, of Bonne Terre

Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. His life was marked by deep connections with family, a passion for classic cars, and a devotion to his pets, particularly his beloved dogs. Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell, he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Throughout his life, Virgil dedicated himself to his family and career. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local #610, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His commitment to hard work and family values was evident in everything he did. Known for his strong work ethic, he inspired those around him with his dedication.

Virgil is survived by five children: Vickie Ramsey and her husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and her husband Dan, Betty Niccum and her husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and his wife Alicia, and Matthew Whitwell and his wife Kristin. In addition to his children, he leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family includes Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, and many more, totaling twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family has also noted the loss of loved ones, including his loving wife, Patricia (O’Brien) Whitwell, two grandchildren—Thomas and Timothy Niccum—and his brother John Stallings. His stepfather, Clete Stallings, also preceded him in death.

Virgil’s enthusiasm for classic cars was a significant aspect of his personality. He appreciated not only the vehicles themselves but also the stories and craftsmanship behind each one. His passion for cars often served as a way to bond with family and friends, creating lasting memories.

Visitation will take place at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge on October 23, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00. The visitation will continue on October 24, 2025, from 09:00 until the service at 11:00, officiated by Pastor Russell Dotson. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
