URGENT UPDATE: A fox in Broomall, PA, has prompted immediate concern and action after it was spotted with a piece of plastic tubing tightly wrapped around its neck. Local resident Bill Shuker filmed the distressed animal early on the morning of October 1 at 2 a.m., near his chicken coop, igniting fears for its welfare.
The footage reveals a serious predicament for the fox, as the plastic tubing appears to be restricting its ability to eat and hydrate. Colleen Bell, president of Good Boy Dog Recovery, stated that the obstruction likely resulted from the animal scavenging for food or trying to enter a cat shelter. “The longer he has it on, the more difficult it’s going to be for him to hydrate and eat,” Bell emphasized. “With winter coming, there’s a real urgency to get it off.”
Good Boy Dog Recovery, typically focused on rescuing dogs, has rallied to assist the fox after being tagged by worried community members on social media. The organization is equipped with humane traps, live surveillance cameras, tracking equipment, and advanced thermal drone technology to locate and rescue the fox safely.
As of now, the fox’s whereabouts remain unknown, but Bell and her team are coordinating a trapping strategy with the support of the Pocono Wildlife and Rehab Center. She urged the community to remain vigilant and continue reporting any sightings, while cautioning against direct interaction. “It’s incredibly important that people do not approach the fox. They certainly could – and will – bite,” she warned. “We don’t want anyone getting injured.”
Shuker, who has noticed increased predator activity near his coop, expressed relief that his chickens have not been harmed. “Fortunately for the chickens, at a certain time they go into the coop and the door shuts – so they’re safe that way,” he explained.
Bell reassured the public that while the situation is concerning, there is no immediate danger. However, she reiterated the importance of not approaching or chasing the fox and urged anyone who sees it to report the day, time, and direction of travel to Good Boy Dog Recovery.
