Edward Holland Jr. passed away peacefully at home at the age of 98. Born in Liberty Hill, Texas, in 1927, he dedicated much of his life to service and family. His journey began at the young age of 16 when he joined the United States Navy in 1943. Serving on a floating drydock in the South Pacific, he contributed to the war effort until the conclusion of World War II in 1945.
Upon returning to San Antonio, Texas, Edward completed his high school education and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947. His first assignment took him to the Pentagon, where he worked in data processing. It was during this time that he met his first wife, Mary Anna Jane Hunter. Together, they had three children: Jan Creed, Beth Ann Burdick, and Bruce Holland.
Edward’s military career was marked by significant achievements, leading to his retirement in 1964. After his service, he transitioned to a role as a database administrator, working in both California and at Cornell University in New York.
Community Involvement and Legacy
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Edward was deeply involved in community activities. He became a member of the Los Angeles Harbor Lodge No. 332 and was actively engaged with the Point Fermin Chapter 512, O.E.S. A member of the Masons for over 50 years, he served as the Worshipful Master in 1977 and was appointed Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter nine times.
Edward’s first wife, Mary, passed away in 1982. He later met his second wife, Laurel Holland, at an Eastern Star meeting. The couple married in 1984, enjoying a fulfilling retirement for the next 41 years.
At the time of his passing, Edward was surrounded by family, representing a remarkable five generations. He is survived by his wife, Laurel; daughters Jan Creed and Beth Ann Burdick; and son Bruce Holland. His legacy continues with his grandchildren: Charissa (husband Seth) Franklin, Kyle Holland, Joel Holland, Courtney Burdick, and Bryanna Burdick, along with great-grandchildren Kaylee Holland, Kyler Holland, Conner Franklin, Ethan Kline, Oliver Austin, Anthony Holland (wife Alexis), and Seth Holland. He also leaves behind two great-great-grandchildren, Anthony Holland Junior and Addlyn Holland.
Memorial Services
Services honoring Edward Holland Jr. will be held at Green Hills Mortuary, located at 27501 S. Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Visitation is scheduled for October 23, 2025, from 16:00 to 20:00, followed by a funeral service on October 24, 2025, at 11:30.
