BREAKING: Skoda’s design team has just revealed a stunning electric concept inspired by one of its rarest classic models, the 1000 MBX. This exciting development showcases a modern twist on the vintage vehicle, which originally debuted in 1966 with only 1,403 units produced until its discontinuation in 1969.
The concept is part of Skoda’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, and features the brand’s latest Modern Solid design language. Skoda’s Antti Savio and David Stingl completed this project in just four weeks, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to innovation and nostalgia. The original 1000 MBX was a two-door coupe version of the 1000 MB, characterized by its rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
Unlike the traditional model, the new design incorporates modern features like four sliding doors for seamless access to bench-style front seats, reminiscent of cinema seating. The innovative concept emphasizes a boxy coupe shape while skipping the B-pillars, drawing comparisons to the Mazda RX-8.
Though this revival is purely a digital concept and not intended for production, it showcases Skoda’s creative vision. The design team has imagined high-end features such as a height-adjustable air suspension, which would be unprecedented in Skoda’s current offerings. The compact coupe is comparable in size to the last Audi TT, blending retro inspiration with futuristic elements.
As for the digital concept itself, it includes a unique glass-covered oval dashboard, adding to its eye-catching appeal. While this concept pays homage to its predecessor, it also evokes memories of the Nissan IDx, another retro-futuristic design.
This revelation follows the introduction of the Vision O, a large electric wagon set to enter production in the coming years. However, the 1000 MBX and its imaginative counterparts will remain as fascinating side projects from Skoda’s design team, never destined for the showroom but sparking excitement among car enthusiasts.
Stay tuned for more updates on this captivating blend of history and innovation, as Skoda continues to push the boundaries of automotive design.
