The 26th annual Pride Festival, organized by the Savannah Pride Center, took place on March 23, 2024, at Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia. This year’s theme, “Illuminate and Let Your Light Glow,” aimed to inspire attendees to express their individuality and shine brightly, even during challenging times.
A vibrant array of LGBTQ+ owned and allied businesses showcased their offerings on the park’s lawn, providing an opportunity for community members to support local vendors. Attendees engaged with various tents featuring resources, information, and interactive activities designed to foster connections and celebrate diversity.
Among the highlights was a unique offering from Reverent Victoria Burnett of We R One Weddings, who provided donation-based marriage ceremonies for couples wishing to tie the knot on the spot. Burnett emphasized her commitment to inclusivity, stating, “So many places will turn people down, and I can’t do that. I just love everybody, and I want everyone to love who they want to love.”
Community Engagement and Celebration
The festival attracted a diverse crowd, bringing together individuals from various backgrounds to celebrate love, acceptance, and unity. Attendees participated in numerous activities, ranging from arts and crafts to informative sessions on LGBTQ+ rights and resources. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as families, friends, and allies came together to support each other and celebrate the vibrant culture of the LGBTQ+ community.
Local businesses played a crucial role in this year’s festival, offering a wide range of products and services. From handmade crafts to delicious food, vendors provided an opportunity for attendees to purchase items while supporting the local economy. This connection between commerce and community was a key aspect of the event, reinforcing the importance of solidarity and mutual support.
