UPDATE: A wave of violence swept through Chicago this weekend, leaving one person dead and nine others injured in a series of shootings, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The victims, aged between 25 and 45, suffered varying degrees of injuries in incidents that unfolded from Friday evening into early Saturday morning.
In the first incident, which occurred around 6:23 p.m. on Friday in the 5500 block of South Lafayette Avenue, a 43-year-old woman was shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant. She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. No further shootings were reported that evening.
The violence escalated early Saturday, starting at 2:23 a.m. when a 25-year-old woman was shot in the arm while driving in the 100 block of East 57th Street. She is currently in serious condition at the same hospital.
Just minutes later, at 2:38 a.m. in the 4400 block of West 16th Street, police discovered a man, also in critical condition, with gunshot wounds to the chest inside a parked vehicle. A weapon was recovered at the scene, and authorities have taken a person of interest into custody.
As the night progressed, additional shootings continued to plague the city. At 3:03 a.m. in the 700 block of South Laramie Avenue, a 27-year-old man self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital after being shot in the neck while in his vehicle. Hours later, at 4:05 a.m., a 45-year-old man was shot in the knee and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
One of the most alarming incidents occurred at 5:22 a.m. in the 4400 block of West Augusta Boulevard, where a 37-year-old man was fatally shot and a 29-year-old man remains in critical condition after being struck multiple times in the head. Both were traveling in a red Dodge Charger when they were ambushed by gunfire.
The violence culminated around 3 p.m. in the 3100 block of South St. Louis Avenue, where three men were shot while in a parking lot. A 35-year-old sustained multiple wounds and is in critical condition, while the other two victims, aged 39 and 42, are in fair condition.
Police report no arrests have been made in connection with these shootings, and the situation remains under investigation by Area Four Detectives.
