BREAKING: A beloved micro farm in Altadena is reopening its doors to the community just weeks after being devastated by the Eaton Fire. The family-run Experience Fable is welcoming visitors back to interact with their cherished animals, including chickens, sheep, and goats, after a tumultuous rebuilding process.
The Chavez family, who were forced to evacuate their home along with 70 animals during the fire, is now looking ahead, thanks to a crucial $10,000 grant from LISC LA’s Wildfire Relief Grant program, supported by Wells Fargo. This funding is pivotal in helping them restore their farm, which is located on Loma Alta Drive.
“We are excited to share our journey with the community,” said White Chavez. “That grant came at the perfect time. Most of what you see here is what we had. All these guys have been on quite the journey.” The family has worked tirelessly to recover, with the majority of their animals saved despite the destruction of their home and land.
During the chaos of the evacuation, the animals were temporarily housed across various locations, including Venice Beach and the LA Equestrian Center. “We literally had turkeys in the carport and on the side of her condo,” White recalled. Eventually, the majority of Experience Fable operated out of San Diego while they rebuilt.
Now, as they prepare to welcome the community back, they aim to provide a comforting and familiar experience. “This is home. Somewhere here in the foothills, nature, beautiful place, that’s the next step,” White explained. Experience Fable plans to open once a week for small, local groups until they secure a more permanent location in Altadena.
The reopening of Experience Fable serves not only as a recovery for the Chavez family but also as a beacon of hope for the community, illustrating resilience in the face of disaster. The farm aims to reconnect families with nature and the joy of animal interactions.
As rebuilding efforts continue, community members are encouraged to support local initiatives like Experience Fable. The road ahead may still be challenging, but the Chavez family’s spirit and determination shine brightly as they rebuild their lives and farm.
Stay tuned for more updates on their progress and opportunities to visit this cherished local gem.
