URGENT UPDATE: A pedestrian has tragically died following a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning on October 1, 2023, at the intersection of 16th and Market Streets in Denver. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Milton McBride, was apprehended just hours later on nearby Wazee Street.
The incident occurred at 2:16 a.m. when McBride allegedly lost control of his pickup truck after striking another vehicle, ultimately crashing into a digital kiosk. This violent collision caused the kiosk to topple onto the victim, who has not yet been publicly identified. Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage obtained by authorities shows McBride driving through the gate arm of a parking garage before the crash, demonstrating reckless behavior. Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing from the red pickup truck as bystanders rushed to assist.
During the arrest, law enforcement discovered a Ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine, in McBride’s left pants pocket. A blood sample was later taken from him at Denver Health Medical Center. McBride is now being held for investigation of vehicular homicide.
The digital kiosks on 16th Street, which were installed in 2015, feature two large 65-inch screens on each side, serving as a directory for local businesses and events. This tragic event underscores the dangers of reckless driving in busy urban areas.
Authorities continue their investigation, and community members are urged to share any additional information regarding the incident. This devastating loss highlights the urgent need for road safety measures in Denver and beyond.
