URGENT UPDATE: Major traffic disruptions are set to impact Boulder County from November 1 to November 7, as multiple construction projects roll out across the area. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes immediately to avoid significant delays.
The most pressing development involves the 28th Street improvements, where crews are enhancing multimodal travel from Pearl to Iris. The northbound 28th Street and Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992, serving the 205 and BOLT routes, will be temporarily relocated to just south of the Valmont intersection until December 31. This relocation is expected to cause increased congestion in the area.
In a separate project, construction crews will begin replacing the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek at 19th Street. This will result in a complete closure of northbound 19th Street between Sumac and Upland. Vehicle and RTD services will detour via Quince, with work anticipated to last until April 1, 2024. Residents and commuters should prepare for substantial delays.
Additionally, the 63rd Street waterline replacement is underway. Closures will affect 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd Streets from Jay to Valmont, although access for businesses and residents will remain open. This project is also expected to conclude by April 1, 2024.
Milling and paving operations on Colo. 7 are ongoing, with alternating double-lane closures expected through late October. Motorists should anticipate delays from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday to Friday, with project completion aiming for December 15.
In Boulder County, lane closures will occur for the Sugarloaf Road culvert replacement at Betasso Road, which may lead to travel delays as a temporary three-way traffic signal is installed. Access to Betasso Preserve will be maintained throughout this project, expected to last into November.
The City of Boulder is also conducting a waterline replacement project on 63rd Street, which will impact traffic through February. Both lanes of traffic on 63rd Street between Gunbarrel Avenue and the railroad crossing will shift to the east side. A full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road is necessary for a deteriorating culvert replacement, lasting until mid-November.
In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation continues at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard, projected to last through March 2026. Although no lane closures are expected, brief delays may occur as work trucks access the site.
Furthermore, lane closures on Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive will take place for traffic signal installation on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through December. Additionally, Weld County has announced full closures of WCR 1.5 and WCR 3 for maintenance until November 26, affecting travel around the clock.
Residents and commuters are urged to stay informed and adjust their travel plans accordingly to navigate these disruptions. Share this information to help others avoid delays during this busy construction period.
