SGMC Health Honors Caitlin Edwards with Prestigious BEE Award

SGMC Health has awarded Caitlin Edwards, a health unit coordinator at the Smith Northview Emergency Department, the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October 2023. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of non-nursing staff members who display exceptional commitment, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing teams at SGMC Health.

Edwards received the honor for her remarkable response to a patient experiencing severe chest pain while waiting to be registered. Demonstrating quick thinking and intuition, she promptly escorted the patient to a treatment room, where she completed the intake process. Her swift actions were crucial, as they led to a test that identified a life-threatening condition, necessitating immediate medical intervention.

Recognizing Exceptional Contributions

According to SGMC Health, Edwards’ ability to swiftly assess the urgency of the situation and expedite care was vital in ensuring that the patient received the necessary treatment without delay. This incident exemplifies the very essence of the BEE Award, which aims to highlight the efforts of non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants.

The BEE Award is awarded monthly, with nominees evaluated on criteria such as leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills. SGMC Health emphasizes the importance of recognizing employees who embody the organization’s motto: “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.”

In addition to the BEE Award, SGMC Health offers various recognition programs designed to honor individuals who go above and beyond in delivering exceptional care and support. For more information on the BEE Award and other recognition initiatives, interested parties can visit sgmc.org/recognition.
