Community Gathers for Health and Wellness Fair to Honor Dothea H. Smith

A health and wellness fair is set to take place on November 11, 2023, in Palatka, Florida, to honor the legacy of the late Dothea H. Smith, a respected educator and community leader. The event, organized by the St. Johns-Putnam-Flagler Chapter of the Charmettes Inc., aims to promote health awareness and community engagement while paying tribute to Smith, who passed away from cancer.

At the Dothea H. Smith Faith & Family Resource Center, located within the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, community members D’Arcy Miller, president of the Charmettes, and Monica Oliver, a member, reflect on Smith’s contributions. A photograph of Smith adorns the center, serving as a reminder of her dedication to education and community service.

The health and wellness fair will feature various activities designed to promote healthy living. Among the participating individuals is Stephanie Johns-Parker, who joins dozens of others in supporting the event. The fair is expected to include health screenings, informational booths, and wellness workshops tailored to community needs.

This initiative not only honors Smith’s commitment to education and public service but also aims to foster connections among residents. Organizers emphasize the importance of community involvement in health initiatives, reflecting Smith’s belief in the power of collective action.

In addition to the wellness fair, the community is encouraged to participate in a walk that will further honor Smith’s memory. The walk aims to unite participants in a shared commitment to health and wellness while celebrating Smith’s enduring impact on the community.

As preparations for the event continue, organizers anticipate strong participation from the local community, highlighting the desire to celebrate a life dedicated to service and education. The fair serves as a reminder of the importance of health awareness and community spirit, resonating with Smith’s legacy as a pillar of the Palatka community.
