David Harbour recently shared a humorous behind-the-scenes moment from the set of Stranger Things that left him unable to maintain his character. The 50-year-old actor, known for his role as Jim Hopper, recounted a scene from season 3 that took an unexpected turn, leading to uncontrollable laughter.
During an interview with People, Harbour described a pivotal scene in which his character confronts the characters played by Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown, Mike and Eleven, respectively. “If you watch [the] behind the scenes of season 3, I’m sitting there with Finn and Millie on the bed,” he explained. “I say to Finn — I’m very angry at Finn and I’m like, ‘You got to get home because I don’t want him in bed with my daughter.’ And I’m like, ‘You got to get home.’ And he goes, ‘Why? What’s the matter?’ And I go, ‘It’s your grandma.’”
The line “It’s your grandma” unexpectedly struck Harbour as comical, causing him to break character repeatedly. “For some reason, that particular line, I couldn’t say it for like an hour,” he admitted. “I laughed and laughed and laughed to the point where the children, Millie and Finn, were like, ‘What is wrong with you? We need to get to work.’”
Despite the disruption, Harbour expressed a sense of fondness for the memory, emphasizing that moments like these are rare for him. “If you watch that thing, that really is probably one of my favorite memories because I’m a pretty responsible guy when I go to work, but I was very, very irresponsible that day,” he said.
As Stranger Things fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming season 5, which premieres with its first four episodes on November 26, 2023, Harbour and Brown recently shared a heartfelt reunion during the world premiere, further fueling excitement for the new episodes.
Harbour’s candid reflection not only highlights the challenges of maintaining character on set but also showcases the camaraderie among the cast, making for a memorable experience that fans can look forward to when the series returns.
