URGENT UPDATE: As temperatures are expected to plummet to life-threatening levels, several agencies in Mobile, Alabama, will open emergency cold-weather shelters starting Sunday, November 9, 2023, at 4 p.m. This critical move comes in response to forecasts predicting dangerously low temperatures.
The Waterfront Rescue Mission will serve as the primary shelter, located at 279 North Washington Avenue. Individuals seeking shelter can contact them at 251-433-1847 or 251-408-1254. Additionally, the Salvation Army will provide shelter for men only at 1009 Dauphin Street. They can be reached at 251-438-1625.
In an effort to facilitate access to these shelters, The WAVE Transit will waive fees on fixed routes for anyone traveling to these locations. This initiative underscores the urgent need for community support as temperatures drop.
