Kimberlee Jean Autry, wife of former Fresno Mayor Alan Autry, passed away on October 18 in Santa Monica after a six-year battle with liver cancer. Her husband expressed profound grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, stating, “Jesus called the love of my life home. Kimberlee was the kindest, most loving person I’ve ever known.” He lauded her strength, noting that she faced her illness with “amazing hope, strength, and courage.”
Originally from Benton, Arkansas, Kimberlee met Alan during his acting career, marrying him in 1994. As he transitioned into politics and became mayor in 2001, she became his steadfast supporter, often appearing alongside him at public events. Their shared commitment to fitness was evident in their routine workouts at the local Gold’s Gym.
Life and Legacy of Kimberlee Autry
Kimberlee was not only an influential figure in her husband’s political life but also made her mark independently. She served as a field representative for then-Representative Jeff Denham during 2011-2012 and was instrumental in developing the “Farm Grown” program for the Fresno Grizzlies baseball team. In addition to her advocacy work, she co-starred with Alan and actor David Hart in the 2011 film “Forgiven,” which attracted around 3.2 million viewers over time. Alan fondly recalled that Kimberlee had her own fan club, citing her as an “underrated actress.”
Her vibrant personality often shone through in political discussions, where she was known for her quick wit. Alan recounted a memorable moment during a protest outside Denham’s Fresno office, where Kimberlee, against advice, engaged with demonstrators who later joked that she should have been elected mayor instead of him.
Memorial Service and Family Remembrance
A memorial service to celebrate Kimberlee’s life is scheduled for November 20 at 11 a.m. at Peoples Church, located at 7172 N. Cedar Ave., Fresno. The service will take place in the G.L. Johnson Chapel, with an additional ceremony planned in Benton, Arkansas, at a later date. The Autry family invites all who loved Kimberlee to join in commemorating her remarkable journey and the joy she brought to many.
In addition to her husband, Kimberlee is survived by her daughters Heather Abelbeck and Lauren Roche, son Austin Autry, and grandsons Kaden Clark and Joseph Roche. She is also mourned by her sisters Jan Green and Tonya Morgan, along with nieces and nephews.
Alan shared a poignant message reflecting on Kimberlee’s impact, stating, “Kim was a little handful of sunshine that lit up every place she went.” He urged others to appreciate their loved ones, emphasizing the importance of treasuring every moment together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Break the Barriers, an organization Kimberlee passionately supported.
As friends and family prepare to honor Kimberlee Autry’s life, her legacy of love, strength, and community engagement will undoubtedly continue to inspire those she touched throughout her journey.
