U.S. Offers Investigation Support After Delhi Red Fort Attack

Following the recent terrorist attack near the Red Fort in Delhi, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States offered investigative support to India. This offer was made during a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Canada. Despite the offer, New Delhi declined assistance, with Rubio acknowledging India’s capability in managing such investigations.

The incident, which occurred on March 4, 2025, involved a car blast that tragically resulted in at least nine fatalities. Rubio characterized the event as a “terrorist attack,” involving a vehicle loaded with highly explosive materials. In response to the blast, Indian authorities have been commended for their thorough and professional handling of the investigation.

India’s response has included formally labeling the explosion a “terrorist incident.” The blast transpired shortly after law enforcement seized nearly 3,000 kilograms of explosives and apprehended individuals linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Rubio expressed confidence in India’s investigative efforts, stating, “We have offered to help, but I think they are very capable of these investigations. They don’t need our help, and they are doing a good job.”

During the G7 meeting, Rubio praised India’s methodical approach, describing the authorities as “very measured, cautious and very professional.” This acknowledgment highlights the international recognition of India’s capabilities in addressing terrorism.

The Red Fort, an iconic symbol of India’s history, has now become the focus of heightened security measures following the attack. The incident reflects ongoing concerns regarding terrorism in the region, particularly involving groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, which has been implicated in past attacks.

As investigations continue, the collaboration between nations in combating terrorism remains a critical area of focus. The U.S. has reiterated its commitment to support global efforts against such threats, even as India asserts its independence in handling the situation. The developments following this tragic event will likely inform future discussions on international cooperation in security matters.
