Gerald R. Cote, Former GE VP, Passes Away at 85

UPDATE: Gerald R. Cote, a notable former Vice President of the General Electric Company, has passed away at the age of 85. Cote died on November 12, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and family devotion.

Cote was born on July 21, 1940, in Derry, New Hampshire. He graduated from Pinkerton High School before earning an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His impressive career at GE spanned over 30 years, during which he held various positions across the company’s numerous divisions nationwide.

As a Vice President, Cote managed significant operations in both Louisville, Kentucky, and Schenectady, New York. His professional journey is remembered as a testament to his work ethic and commitment to excellence, making him a respected figure in the engineering community.

Outside of work, Cote was deeply passionate about sports. He played three sports in high school and continued his athletic enthusiasm by playing college football. He was also a devoted father, sharing his love for the game with his late son, Brian, as he coached him in little league and high school baseball.

Later in life, Cote discovered a passion for golf, which he enjoyed both competitively and recreationally with friends and family. A lifelong fan, he passionately supported the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, never missing a game.

He is survived by his sons, Andrew (Sydney) and Christopher (Julia), along with his two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who brought him immense joy. Cote’s beloved wife, Sally, and his son, Brian, predeceased him, adding a layer of heartbreak to his family’s loss.

In accordance with Cote’s wishes, there will be no formal services. However, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
