Parma Mayor Honors Veterans with Ceremonies Following Veterans Day

Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter paid tribute to local veterans during two ceremonies held on November 12, 2023, the day following Veterans Day. His first stop was at the Pleasant Lake Villa, where he participated in a pinning ceremony for veterans. Three individuals were presented with certificates of appreciation for their military service.

Following this, DeGeeter visited the Broadview Multi-Care Center for another pinning event. Throughout both ceremonies, he expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans and highlighted the various organizations and healthcare facilities in Parma dedicated to supporting the veteran community.

“Parma is a strong veterans city,” DeGeeter stated. “We are proud of their service and as a city, we appreciate their service. Visiting our veterans in nursing facilities the day after Veterans Day is a small gesture compared to the sacrifices they made for us. Spending time with them ensures they know their service is honored every day.”

Community Engagement and Support for Veterans

During his visit, DeGeeter emphasized the importance of community support for veterans. He noted that Parma hosts multiple organizations focused on providing essential services, healthcare, and resources to local veterans. This network plays a crucial role in ensuring that veterans receive recognition and assistance throughout the year, not just during commemorative events.

The mayor’s visits demonstrate an ongoing commitment to honoring veterans and acknowledging their contributions. By personally engaging with veterans in care facilities, DeGeeter aims to foster a sense of appreciation and belonging within the community.

Local Initiatives Promoting School Attendance

In related community news, the Cleveland Browns team recently made a visit to Brooklyn School as part of their Stay in the Game Attendance Network initiative. Chomps, the team’s mascot, along with defensive tackle Shelby Harris, engaged with students in grades four to seven. During their visit, students had the unique opportunity to create artwork that will adorn the cleats worn by Harris in an upcoming home game.

The initiative is designed to raise awareness about the importance of school attendance. Each student was provided with a drawing of cleats to personalize, using a variety of colors and designs. This creative project not only inspires young students but also promotes a vital message about the significance of being present in school.

Upcoming Community Events

Looking ahead, the Parma Police Department is gearing up for its 24th annual food drive to support the Parma Hunger Center. Set for November 24, 2023, from noon to 20:00, the drive will take place at the Snow Road Giant Eagle. Community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or cash contributions to assist those in need during the holiday season.

Residents are also invited to contribute to the Sun Postings column by sharing information about local events, milestones, and community achievements. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] at least ten days prior to the desired publication date.

Through these efforts, Parma continues to demonstrate its commitment to honoring its veterans while fostering community spirit and support for local initiatives.
