The Midco Foundation has awarded a generous grant of $10,000 to the Grand Forks Salvation Army, a faith-based nonprofit organization that plays a crucial role in providing food and essential resources to the local community. This funding will enhance the organization’s ability to serve individuals and families in need within Grand Forks County and East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where the Salvation Army team assists between 450 and 500 people each month.
According to a press release issued by Midco on November 18, 2023, the Grand Forks Salvation Army has reported a significant 40% increase in demand at its food pantry recently. This surge underscores the vital role of community support during challenging economic times. Midco’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Ben Dold, emphasized the pressing need for assistance, stating, “Food banks across the Midwest are experiencing serious strain amid rising costs and an increased need for their critical services.” Dold expressed pride in supporting the Grand Forks Salvation Army’s mission, highlighting their commitment to spreading hope throughout the community.
The auxiliary captain and corps officer of the Salvation Army, Eugene Ware, expressed deep gratitude for the grant. “This funding will help the Grand Forks Salvation Army to continue to meet urgent needs in our community, such as emergency assistance for those facing food insecurity, and offer hope to our neighbors when they need it most,” Ware remarked.
As the holiday season approaches, Rhonda Erickson, Midco’s Senior Community Relations Manager and Foundation Executive Director, noted the importance of recognizing the efforts of those who sustain the Salvation Army. “Their daily acts of kindness and generosity keep many of our community members, including children and the elderly, fed and healthy,” she said. “We’re so honored to help them with this grant and hope others will join us in recognizing them for their humble heroism.”
The press release also highlighted various opportunities for public involvement with the Grand Forks Salvation Army. Community members are invited to join the organization for a communal meal on November 21, which is open to all. Additionally, December 12 marks Big Ring Day at Northdale Oil, where donations of $0.10 to $0.50 per gallon of fuel will contribute to a goal of raising $60,000. Each $20 donation can be matched to become $100 through both corporate and community support.
The Grand Forks Salvation Army is continuously seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks, including ringing bells, helping at the thrift store, and supporting its core programs. This grant from the Midco Foundation not only reinforces the Salvation Army’s capacity to serve but also encourages community involvement in addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations.
