Dr. Peter Sheckman has been appointed as the chair of the Board of Directors for Bridgewell, a nonprofit organization that provides social and human services in northeastern Massachusetts. His appointment was announced alongside Jane Puffer, who will serve as the board’s vice chair.
A resident of Swampscott, Sheckman brings over four decades of experience in internal medicine and infectious disease to his new role. He retired from his most recent position at North Shore Physicians Group, now part of Mass General Brigham, where he served as a partner and medical director for 25 years. He also held the role of hospital epidemiologist at both Lynn and Union Hospitals. Sheckman earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Yale University and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine.
Sheckman has previously served on the Board of Directors for Project Cope, including a two-year tenure as chair. He played a pivotal role in Project Cope’s merger with Bridgewell over a decade ago. Reflecting on this journey, he stated, “What a revelation it has been for me to watch the growth and development of the organization through incredible leadership and mission-driven work.” His commitment to Bridgewell’s mission has motivated him to remain involved, especially now as board chair.
Puffer, based in Acton, is the president of Dreamaker Consulting Group, where she provides marketing leadership to early-stage technology companies. She has an extensive background in marketing, having previously served as the vice president of marketing for Integrated Development Enterprise Corporation and holding various positions at Compaq Computer, which was later acquired by Hewlett-Packard. Puffer holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in administration, innovation, and technology from Boston University.
With over 14 years of service on Bridgewell’s board, Puffer expressed her gratitude for being elected vice chair, stating, “For many years, I have been involved with the organization because of its mission to serve the community through empowering people with disabilities and other life challenges to live their best lives.”
Chris Tuttle, President and CEO of Bridgewell, acknowledged the significant contributions of both Sheckman and Puffer since their appointments to the board. “Their combined oversight and deep understanding of our organization and the needs of the individuals we serve will be invaluable as chair and vice chair,” Tuttle commented.
Bridgewell is dedicated to strengthening communities by empowering individuals with disabilities and those facing life challenges. Headquartered in Peabody, Massachusetts, the organization provides a wide range of services, including community housing, day programs, outpatient treatment, recovery services, education, and employment training. With a staff of more than 1,200 professionals, Bridgewell serves approximately 7,200 individuals and their families. The organization is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and fully licensed by the state.
Through their leadership, Sheckman and Puffer will play crucial roles in advancing Bridgewell’s mission and enhancing its impact on the community.
