Jacksonville Community Comes Together for Free Thanksgiving Turkeys

As Thanksgiving approaches, various organizations in Jacksonville are mobilizing to provide free turkeys to families in need. This initiative aims to ensure that everyone has access to a holiday meal despite ongoing economic challenges. The City of Jacksonville has announced several events, encouraging residents to arrive early due to limited supplies.

Councilman Gaffney Jr. will host a turkey giveaway on November 25, 2023, at the FSCJ Downtown Campus, starting at 09:00. An estimated 800 turkeys will be available, with a limit of one turkey per family to maximize the outreach of this effort. Residents are expected to line up early to secure their holiday meal.

In addition to the councilman’s initiative, the MASS Clinic is organizing its own turkey distribution at the Islamic Center of NEFL located at 2333 St. Johns Bluff Rd S. This event will take place from 10:30 to 13:30 and requires participants to present identification. Providing support to the community has been a long-standing mission for the MASS Clinic.

The Clara White Mission is also participating in the holiday spirit with its “Feed the City” event scheduled for the same day. This distribution will run from 11:00 to 13:00 at 613 W. Ashley St, targeting those in need of food assistance.

Furthermore, Farm Share plans to distribute provisions for over 2,000 families at the FSCJ Downtown Campus. This drive-thru event in Lot #4 is designed for efficiency, allowing families to receive their turkeys with minimal hassle.

To conclude the weekend of giving, Operation Thanksgiving, hosted by Campione Law P.A., will hold a turkey giveaway on Sunday, November 26, 2023. This event will take place at the Community First Igloo at 3605 Philips Hwy, from 10:00 to 13:00. The giveaway will operate on a one turkey per car basis, ensuring a smooth flow for all participants.

These initiatives highlight the commitment of Jacksonville’s community to support its residents during the holiday season. By providing free turkeys, local organizations are fostering a spirit of generosity and solidarity, making Thanksgiving a more inclusive celebration for all.
