SALT LAKE CITY — Corner Canyon High School’s football team is set to make history as they participate in the inaugural “Overtime Nationals” game, a national championship for high school teams. The Chargers will face St. Frances Academy, currently ranked No. 1 in the country according to MaxPreps. This groundbreaking event will take place at Under Armour Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 10, 2023, with the winning team receiving $250,000 for its athletic department.
Following their recent success in winning a second three-peat as 6A champions over the past eight seasons, Corner Canyon is eager to showcase their skills on a national stage. Head coach Eric Kjar expressed excitement about the opportunity, stating, “Overtime is giving high school football a national stage like we’ve never seen before. It’s a huge opportunity for our athletes to compete in front of a nationwide audience and show what our program is all about.”
The Overtime Nationals aims to provide high school athletes with a moment akin to the Super Bowl in the NFL or the College Football Playoff. Hunter Mandel, general manager of Overtime Football, emphasized the importance of this championship, saying it was created to “finally give high school athletes that same pinnacle moment.”
As they prepare for the championship, the Chargers bring a formidable record, boasting the No. 3-rated offense in the nation, according to Massey Ratings. They will face a challenging opponent in St. Frances Academy, whose defense is ranked No. 1 nationwide. The Panthers’ defensive lineup includes five-star defensive end Zion Elee, recognized as the ninth-highest ranked player in the 2026 recruiting class by 247Sports. Additionally, safety Jireh Edwards, ranked No. 35 in the same class, adds to the Panthers’ formidable defense.
