Unison Bank’s $250,000 Donation Fuels New Campus Hub at UJ

A generous donation of $250,000 from Unison Bank has significantly enhanced campus life at the University of Jamestown. This contribution has led to the establishment of The Well Coffee Shop, located within the newly inaugurated Reuben and Clarice Liechty Center for Faith and Life. The coffee shop, which opened its doors in October 2023, is designed to be more than just a place to grab a drink; it aims to serve as a central gathering space for students and the community.

The Well is strategically situated between the historic Voorhees Chapel and the Badal Nafus Student Union. It is quickly evolving into a vibrant hub for connection and engagement on campus. According to Brett Moser, vice president of development and alumni relations, “It is a special place for the campus and community to enjoy.” He expressed gratitude towards Unison Bank for their support, stating that their generosity has made this vision a reality, turning the space into a meaningful venue for future generations.

The Purpose Behind The Well

The Well is not just another coffee shop; it embodies the university’s faith-based mission. The name symbolizes a source of refreshment, reflection, and spiritual growth, akin to a modern-day well where students and community members can gather to rejuvenate. Kelly Rachel, president and CEO of Unison Bank, highlighted the bank’s intent, noting, “We were excited about creating a space where students feel cared for, energized and supported.” She emphasized that a nurturing environment allows students to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Unison Bank, established in 1965 in Jamestown, has a longstanding commitment to supporting education and community initiatives. Rachel articulated the bank’s philosophy: “We give back because helping others achieve their dreams is at the core of who we are.” She hopes that this initiative will inspire a culture of intentionality among students, encouraging them to live with purpose and build a supportive community.

A Space for Connection

As coffee brews, ideas and friendships also flourish. The university reports that The Well is rapidly becoming a favored spot for students to pause, pray, and connect with one another, enriching their college experience. The welcoming atmosphere promotes not only social interactions but also a deeper understanding of their academic and spiritual journeys.
