Donald Trump’s anticipated healthcare plan was met with sharp criticism following its recent postponement. Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, referred to the initiative as “entirely fictional” during a video posted on her YouTube channel. The announcement, originally set for Thanksgiving, was delayed by the White House, prompting Mary Trump to express her disappointment regarding the administration’s ongoing struggles with healthcare policy.
In her remarks, Mary Trump highlighted her uncle’s repeated promises to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. “Donald repeatedly promised to abolish it and replace it with a better, cheaper alternative, known as Trumpcare,” she stated. “But of course it isn’t known as Trumpcare because it’s entirely fictional. It has never proceeded beyond being anything other than a concept of a plan.”
The postponement of the healthcare proposals has sparked frustration among many, particularly those who have awaited substantial changes for years. Mary Trump emphasized, “We’ve been waiting for eight years. Eight years, for Donald and his crack team of professionals to improve an already quite functional healthcare system which was created during the Obama administration. And yet, crickets.”
This situation is compounded by ongoing debates surrounding a potential government shutdown over healthcare issues. Mary Trump contended that such political maneuvers have not provided solutions for the millions who may lose their healthcare coverage or for the Republican Party itself.
In addition to her critique of the healthcare plan, Mary Trump pointed to the premature closure of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), established by Elon Musk to eliminate government waste. She suggested that the department’s closure reflects a broader pattern of unfulfilled promises from Trump and his administration.
Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, also weighed in on DOGE’s performance. He described it as an “utter failure” that failed to meet its goals. “I was told that DOGE was going to create trillions and trillions of dollars in cuts from wasteful government spending and as it turns out it was a net negative. It created more costs than it saved,” he remarked.
Wilson criticized Musk’s approach, suggesting that it focused more on eliminating aspects of government he found objectionable rather than on pursuing meaningful spending oversight. “His strategy was an aesthetic dislike of X, anything that’s woke,” Wilson explained, noting that this included terms like “justice, equity, climate, bias,” which he argued trigger reactions among certain political factions.
As the political landscape continues to shift, the future of healthcare policy under the Trump administration remains uncertain, with many waiting for concrete proposals to emerge from the White House. The ongoing criticism from both Mary Trump and political analysts underscores the challenges facing the administration as it attempts to navigate complex healthcare reforms.
