New Leadership and Website Revitalize Empty Stocking Fund

The Empty Stocking Fund is undergoing significant changes this year, introducing new leadership and a dedicated website to enhance its mission of supporting local children during the Christmas season. Established over 75 years ago through a donation from the estate of James E. Massey, the fund aids the Salvation Army in purchasing toys for children in need across South Georgia.

After serving for two decades, Margie Blanton has retired from her role overseeing the fund. Her leadership helped shape the organization into a respected source of community generosity. Taking over her responsibilities is Shea Zeigler, also from Guardian Bank, who expresses a strong commitment to continuing the fund’s legacy.

New Website Enhances Donor Experience

In addition to the leadership transition, the Empty Stocking Fund has launched a new website, developed in partnership with Anchored Media Marketing. This user-friendly platform aims to simplify the donation process and foster connections with the community. As the holiday season approaches, the site provides an efficient way for donors to support families in need.

Individuals interested in contributing can visit the new site at https://emptystockingfundvaldosta.org. Contributions can be sent directly to the fund at Empty Stocking Fund, c/o Shea Zeigler, Guardian Bank, PO Box 3400, Valdosta, GA 31604. Donors will be acknowledged in editions of The Valdosta Daily Times, although those wishing to remain anonymous will have that option respected.

Community Support Drives Fundraising Efforts

The Empty Stocking Fund benefits from the support of various local groups, including the Outback Riders motorcycle club, which organizes a toy run each year. The 33rd annual event is set to take place on December 20, 2025, beginning at 09:00 at Roger Budd’s Outlet Mall in Lake Park. This annual gathering is a testament to the community’s ongoing dedication to ensuring a joyful holiday for local children.

As the holiday season draws near, the Empty Stocking Fund continues to seek donations to fulfill its mission. The organization encourages individuals to contribute early and often, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to receive a gift this Christmas.
