UPDATE: As the world increasingly seeks beauty in everyday moments, a powerful reminder emerges from a heartwarming story shared by columnist Woody. Just today, he recounts the transformative nature of embracing daily life through the lens of “Kintsugi,” the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold, which emphasizes finding value in imperfections.
In a captivating narrative, Woody reflects on his daughter, Dallas, who celebrated her 13th birthday by taking their dog, Murray, for routine walks around their neighborhood. Each stroll revealed unexpected wonders: a child joyfully playing, vibrant red berries on bushes, and even the casual strut of a bird. “So many rich and beautiful details that would be so easy to miss if you were not paying attention,” Dallas remarked, highlighting how a simple routine can unveil extraordinary moments.
Additionally, Woody shares a phone call with his son Greg, who described a recent evening run along the East River in New York City. Amidst the familiar route, Greg stopped to admire a breathtaking sunset over the Brooklyn Bridge. “It was so beautiful I paused mid-run to just look up and take it all in,” he expressed, illustrating how even the mundane can become magical with the right perspective.
This poignant reminder calls on us all to appreciate our surroundings and recognize beauty in the ordinary. As a part of this celebration of life, Woody is also encouraging community involvement through the ongoing Woody’s Holiday Ball Drive. New sports balls can be dropped off until December 8 at Sanbell, located at 1672 Donlon St., Ventura, CA 93003. Online orders are also welcomed, with donors encouraged to email Woody at [email protected] to have their generosity acknowledged in future columns.
Join the movement to find joy in daily routines and contribute to a meaningful cause. The beauty of life is all around us, waiting to be discovered. Share this story and inspire others to look closer at the world around them!
