Community Celebrates Thanksgiving with Meals and Generosity

On November 28, 2025, the spirit of Thanksgiving filled the air in Greenfield and Turners Falls, Massachusetts, as community members gathered to share meals and celebrate together. Two local organizations, Stone Soup Cafe and the Montague Elks Lodge, played pivotal roles in providing food and camaraderie to those in need.

At Stone Soup Cafe, volunteers served up a traditional Thanksgiving meal featuring turkey, mashed potatoes, and an array of desserts. Patrons enjoyed the festive atmosphere as they picked up their plates filled with delicious food. This gathering not only offered nourishment but also created a sense of community among attendees.

In Turners Falls, the Montague Elks Lodge took a similar approach, preparing and serving approximately 200 meals to local residents. Volunteers, including members like Kim Bergeron and Rod Demers, worked tirelessly to plate and carve turkey, ensuring that everyone received a hearty meal. The Elks Lodge’s efforts exemplified the commitment to supporting those who might otherwise go without during the holiday season.

One notable participant was Terry Eaklor of Millers Falls, who picked up eight turkey dinners to distribute to friends who are homebound. His initiative highlighted the importance of looking out for one another during the holidays.

Another resident, Dan Parker, brought a touch of humor to the occasion by donning a homemade turkey hat while collecting his meal. This light-hearted gesture added to the festive spirit of the day.

As the community came together in both locations, the Thanksgiving celebrations underscored the values of generosity and togetherness. The meals provided by Stone Soup Cafe and the Montague Elks Lodge served not just as sustenance but as a reminder of the strength found in community bonds.

These gatherings reflect a broader trend of local organizations stepping up to support their communities, especially during significant holidays. The efforts of the volunteers showcase how collective action can create a positive impact, fostering an environment where everyone can partake in the joy of Thanksgiving.

In a time when many face challenges, events like these promote unity and the spirit of giving, ensuring that the essence of Thanksgiving is felt by all.
