West Fargo Initiates Search for New Human Resources Director

The city of West Fargo is actively searching for a new human resources director following the resignation of Sarah Gasevic. Gasevic’s resignation was accepted on November 4, 2023, without a formal letter, according to Rachel Richter Lordemann, the city’s Director of Communications. Her departure adds to a series of leadership changes in the city, as Gasevic was the latest in a line of department heads to leave within a short time frame.

Gasevic joined West Fargo in August 2023, bringing a wealth of experience in human resources management from previous roles at the University of Mary and the Village Service Centers. During her brief tenure, she conducted a staff salary study in early 2024, which indicated that most employee salaries were aligned with regional standards. Additionally, the West Fargo Park District had contracted with Gasevic to enhance HR policies and address various human resources issues.

Throughout 2025, Gasevic worked on updating city personnel policies and the employee handbook, essential documents for all city staff. Her contributions aimed to ensure that employees were well-informed about their rights and responsibilities.

In the wake of Gasevic’s resignation, Dustin Scott, the City Administrator, confirmed that the human resources director position has been posted. He noted the positive response to the job opening, stating that there has already been “strong interest” with several applications received in the ten days since the position was advertised. “Staff are our most critical asset, so we’re doing everything we can to make sure there is no disruption in human resources services for them,” Scott emphasized.

To maintain continuity in the human resources department, Rick Lee, Senior Director of Administrative Services, will provide support until a new director is onboarded. Applications for the position will be accepted until December 15, 2023, with plans for interviews scheduled after the holiday season. The city anticipates appointing a new human resources director in the first quarter of 2026.

The job posting indicates a projected annual salary range for the human resources director position between $119,171 and $131,088. This competitive compensation reflects the city’s commitment to attracting qualified candidates who can effectively lead the department and support its staff.
